Cheadle Hulme U3A

Our U3A

Our U3A

In September 2001, a meeting of over 90 Third-Agers met in Cheadle Hulme to discuss the formation of a new U3A branch and seven volunteered their services as group leaders.
The first quarterly newsletter was issued early in 2002 and, within a year, membership had grown to around 200. In December 2011, we celebrated our 10th anniversary and membership is now just short of 300 with nearly 30 active groups.
At the core of our U3A activities is the members’ meeting held in Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church Hall on Station Road on the first Thursday of each month commencing at 2 p.m., which serves a valuable social function in bringing all the Groups together. Since U3A Learning and Activity Groups are independent co-operatives, the monthly meeting provides an opportunity for the Committee and Group Leaders to make announcements and pass on information to the membership as a whole. The monthly meeting has also brought us guest speakers on a wide range of interesting subjects.
